Tryvertising
Tryvertising - Mass marketing is a dying industry. People
have been advertised and marketed to so much, that most messages
are simply being
ignored.
Take a look at your own life. Do you turn the channel when
a commercial comes on? Do you pay for XM Satellite radio, just
to avoid commercials? Do you stand over your trashcan when
you go through your mail? You’re not alone.
If you live your daily life this way, so do the people you
are trying to market to. If most of your advertising is simply
being avoided, how do you break through?
Enter tryvertising. Tryvertising is the idea of providing
a potential customer a free trial before they buy. It’s a way
of letting a customer try something new without having to make
a decision on whether to purchase.
When you visit your dentist, and he gives you a trial tube
of Crest toothpaste, that’s tryvertising.
When you have lunch at your local restaurant and they hand
out a sample pack of breath mints, that’s tryvertising.
So how can a studio use tryvertising? Actually, you have many
ways of making this work for you.
Find a local children’s clothing store, and create a springtime
celebration. When a customer purchases a new spring outfit
for her child on a Saturday afternoon, she will receive a free
5x7 of her child – right on the spot! Digital makes it easy
to photograph AND print the photo within just a few minutes.
Include a coupon for a free family sitting in the folder you
hand to your new client. Gather her email and mailing address,
and you’ve started creating a dynamite mailing list!
Want an online example? Photographers have a great business
to tryvertise online. When people come to you, they want photographs.
Online, you can easily give them what they want – photographs!
Show them what you do. Take them on a tour of your studio,
or show them how you photograph on-location. Photographs and
video are both easy to put online. The purpose is not to make
people watch everything you have to offer, but to entice them
to keep moving through your site. Move from one family to the
next. Make things interactive. Ask them if they would like
to see more. And provide as much as they are willing to look
at. A good website can be your best salesteam!
