Using
Current Events
Have
you ever used current news items in your marketing plan to
create a unique advertising campaign?
Consider
what the restaurant Long John Silver’s has recently done. As
a part of the excitement of landing on Mars, and attempting
to find life, Long John Silver’s has made an outrageous offer.
If
NASA finds conclusive evidence
of
an ocean on Mars,
America
eats free giant shrimp.
Even
though there are a lot of rules that go along with this claim,
Long John Silver’s has come up with a logo, a slogan, an ad
campaign, and is turning a current event into a very successful
marketing strategy. The press is picking up on it, and there
are several major news stories on their strategies.
How
can you use this strategy in your business? Read the papers,
Internet news sites, or watch news stations on television every
day. Pick up on world news (not just the bad stuff) and have
fun with stories being covered in the news. Then build a marketing
strategy to have fun with things people are listening to regularly.
The more exciting and relevant to the times you make it, the
more others (including the media) will find it interesting,
and find a reason for contacting you for more information!
